Vektor - Dying World

Hey folks!

Its the time of the year that we look back..NOT that far ☺
Just this year, 2011.
What we thought was best in the album releases world for 2011.
As Stones said we don't think the same … So we will present 2 Tune of the day per day for some days now, with start of today!
To summarize this year for me, yea its been a hard working year, with lotsa band and less hrs. to sleep. I've been multi working and…pwew Im tired, but wtf the show must go on, as Queen said.

If I compare it with last year, regarding to good gigs…hm dunno who won, every gig has its specials… My best gig this year in music and experience, was Foo Fighters at Stadium, Stockholm and I don't even have em as my favo´s but what ever it was a great gig.

The second place goes to Black Country Communion, this gig I didn't work on, just stood there and listening……the whole gig. This is very rare when it comes to me, Im a mingler :p I loved their tunes and Joe´s guitar and Derek´s keyboard, John´s drumms, Glen´s bass… although He took some space there on the stage ☺
Hope ure following our top ten list.

Number 10 is the band Vektor 3rd studio album "Outer Isolations"

For me, this is a album that's full of energy and progressive metal, they say its trash metal force. This album is even better than their last album "Black Future" that they released 2009. Love this album much!

Merry Christmas and a Happy new year from Me, Thetania, Cheers!

Without visio, just sound.

Saviours - Crete’n

Saviours is an American rock, stoner metal band. The band was formed in 2004 in Oakland, California. Since then, they have released four full-length albums and few EPs.

The Californian quartet shuffles around in a not-quite-fixed-land by releasing a record that fingers little here and there. Death Procession feels rather comfortable in my ears and this sounds like a bearded mix of sludgy thrash and sweet Stoner and that becomes a thickened riff experience. To my somewhat limited access to their previous works makes my curiosity is growing and realizing that I had to check up on their earlier records. The new album is also released on Vinyl. It Should be noted That the vinyl of Death's Procession Have Embossed covers for The First Run.

Their words about new album:

The main influence on their latest album is Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Thin Lizzy. The whole record is a trek through Earth’s demise which everyone contributes to, oblivious or not. It’s a procession toward death. The world has gone insane. Humans have become apathetic, greedy, self-centered, over-medicated, delusional parasites in a filthy, drained and deflated world. It’s hopeless now, too far gone. Now we wait. That’s what this record is about. Earth’s possession and death’s procession.

Death’s Procession was recorded by Phil Manley (of Trans Am and The Fucking Champs) at Lucky Cat in San Francisco.

The band consists of:
Austin Barber - vocals, lead & rhythm guitar
Sonny Christopher Reinhardt - lead & rhythm guitar
Cyrus Comiskey (Black Fork, Drunk Horse) - bass
Scott Batiste - drums

The band is on tour currently and lands in Sweden in late October for three dates, Gothenburg, Stockholm and Linkoping. See rest of the tour below.

Christoffer Röstlund Jonsson wrote a review of the new record in the Metro newspaper, read it here!

Vektor - Destroying The Cosmos

Vektor is a sci-fi thrash metal band from Tempe, Arizona. They portray the future as a bleak, barren wasteland that has been destroyed by greed, power, corruption, hate, violence, ignorance, and control.

Black Future is the second full-length album. It was released in 2009. The album is a brilliant musical knockout.

The lyrics are a bit odd to be an Thrash album, not that the standard meaningless poetry that deals with subjects of Party's, hard living, love, fuck around etc, but this raises the universe, cosmos and the media in between, it is a journey into controversial places, which is very interesting.

When you look at the cover one thinks immediately that this is a Voivod copy, but you get deceive. The music is a wonderful mix of Progresiv Black Metal based on a classical frame of Thrash. Very well written rolling bismuth riffs, heavy melodic passages and briliant snarling vocals. Guitarists possesses an incredible technical skill in their work, the other in the rhythm section consisting of a very tight drummer and a bassist who can play more than three notes, and really-abuse his instrumment. Something else that is very odd for a Thrash album is the length of the songs, here are three tracks that passes 10 minutes.

Black Future is a very well executed plate, as in a review would probably would sniff at a full score, this is an crystal clear tip for all thrash heads!

The Vinyl Edition!

Members:
David DiSanto (guitar/vocals),
Erik Nelson (guitar),
Blake Anderson (drums),
Frank Chin (bass)

Todays tune is "Destroying The Cosmos" taken from "Black Future", Enjoy!

Voivod - The Getaway

Legends, cult and innovators, dear child has many names. All this fits in to the Canadians in Voivod, one of the most prestigious in the genre.

The band was formed nearly thirty years ago and from that originally have been a pure speed metal band, developed sound with elements of both thrash and progressive metal and the classic Voivod sound was a fact. The debut album "War & Pain " was in the record stores in 1984 and to date there has been a further 10 studio albums. The so-called commercial breakthrough came in 1989 with the album "Nothing Face", which even found its way onto the Billboard charts. 2005 the band was hit by tragedy when guitarist and one of grujdarna, Piggy (Denis D'Amour), died as a result of cancer. This caused the band for a while was at rest, but 2008 was hoisted the Voivodflag again. The latest studio given "Infini" was released in 2009 and consists of material recorded before the death of Piggy.

Megadeth - Breadline

Megadeth is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1983. Founded by guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson following Mustaine's departure from Metallica, the band has since released 12 studio albums, three live albums, two EPs, 26 singles, 32 music videos, four compilations and one box set. As a pioneer of the American thrash metal movement, Megadeth rose to international fame in the 1980s and was ranked as one of the "Big Four of Thrash," along with Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, who were responsible for creating, developing and popularizing the thrash metal sub-genre.

Todays tune "Breadline" is a single off their album Risk. The remix single was released only in Japan. Its lyrics describe a poor man with no money or possessions to call his own (although the line "sniffing up the white lines" suggests he has access to cocaine).

The album "Risk" is the eighth studio album, released in 1999. Risk is the last original Megadeth release to feature long time Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman, who announced his departure from the group in March 2000. This album is the first Megadeth recording with drummer Jimmy DeGrasso. The title stems from a comment by Lars Ulrich from Metallica, who suggested to Dave Mustaine that he take more "risks" with his music. This decision resulted in mixed reviews for both the band and the album; a good portion did not favor the new sound and image, while other praised the band for attempting something different and experimenting rather than sticking to their roots. Risk went gold in 1999 as stated on Megadeth's web site.

Exodus - Downfall

From the Angels to Exodus and the third band from "Trashfest". Exodus is an American thrash metal band formed in 1980 in the San Francisco Bay Area, California by guitarist Gary Holt, current Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett, and drummer Tom Hunting.

Spanning a career of 30 years, Exodus has gone through numerous line-up changes, two extended hiatuses and has seen the deaths of two former band members. With nine studio albums, two live albums and two compilations, Exodus has released a total of thirteen albums since their debut in 1985. Gary Holt remains the only steady member of the band, appearing on all their releases. Though drummer Tom Hunting is one of the founding band members, he has made two departures from Exodus but is currently the band's active drummer.

Their most recent album is Exhibit B: The Human Condition, which came out in 2010.

Continued from yesterday ... Sure, you could sense a bit of nervousness, but not for long .. just a few seconds, if there was even anything :) Once Exodus kicked off and thrash riffs I come out thru the speakers, it was like it went out an electricshock into the audience who got totally nuts. It was headbanging like never before and people bounced over the fence into the ditch all the time. This was an action-packed, a bit messy concert and things happened almost all the time, it was a very entertaining event. There is a review on Thrashfest at WeRock made by Robert Gustavsson, read it here!

Todays tune "Downfall" is taken from the ninth studio album "Exhibit B: The Human Condition". The album picks up after The Atrocity Exhibition... Exhibit A, with darker themes centered around war, death, society, politics and religion. It was released on 7 May 2010.

Death Angel - Truce

Now we change from suicidal angels to death angels and its time for band number two from "Trashfest", and it is the American thrash metal band Death Angel, from San Francisco, founded in 1982. The group originally consisted of the cousins Mark Osegueda (vocals), Rob Cavestany (guitar), Gus Pepa (guitar), Dennis Pepa (bass) and Andy Galeon (drums). In 1986 they recorded demo Kill as One which was produced by Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and led to a recording contract with Enigma Records. The debut album The Ultra-Violence was established in 1987. Sequel Frolic Through the Park was released the following year. Before their third album, Act III (1990) was the group's contract was sold to Geffen Records.

On the way to a gig in Las Vegas in 1990 were injured drummer Andy Galeon seriously in a car accident and would need more than a year to recover. Shortly thereafter Osegueda decided to quit music and moved to New York. The remaining band members formed the group The Organization instead. 2001 reunited Death Angel to play at a benefit concert for Testament singer Chuck Billy, without Gus Pepa, who was replaced by Ted Aguilar. The group's fourth album, The Art of Dying, was given in 2004. It was followed in 2008 by Killing Season. The latest album Relentless Retribution was released September 3, 2010. And the producer was Jason Suecof (Trivium, August Burns Red, The Black Dahlia Murder, All That Remains, Whitechapel, Devildriver). You can read the review on WeRock here!

After the Thrashfest, Death Angel will be touring in the US with Swedish Soilwork.

Death Angel did an amazing performance and got the entire audience directly, the band's is lively band that enter the stage and it truly to see and hear that the band is here to deliver their classic thrash in the best possible way. It's really hard to stand still when the Death Angel riffs plowing through the speakers. When the bands time ran out and the set is done, its time for the changeover and I wonder how Exodus, who is the turn get on stage will handle this, I hear how Rob Dukes saunter to and fro in the corridors and sings-up in the classical way of doing scales, more on that tomorrow. There is a review on Thrashfest at WeRock made by Robert Gustavsson, read it here!
