Nachtmystium - Nightfall

Today I got a bit inspired to listen to a "Skull", what skull, you say, yes it is so that there is a blog, where an amazing artist "Slusk" who paints a "skull" of the week, and this week he has been extra good and painted three skulls.

The first skull is one of the band "Death In June" uses.

The second is from Agoraphobic Nosebleeds EP "A Clockwork Sodom."

The third skull is from Nachtmysiums Assassins: Black Meddle, Part 1, which also is a band that we pick today's tune.

Nachtmystium is an American psychedelic black metal band formed by Blake Judd, formerly known as Azentrius, and Pat McCormick. The band's name is derived from the German word Nacht meaning "night", and the made-up term mystium which resembles the Latin adjective mysticum. Judd and McCormick combined the words to create the band's name, which they state means "Encompassing Darkness."

Todays tune "Nightfall" is taken from the fifth full-length album "Addicts: Black Meddle, Pt. II"  It was released on June 8, 2010.

Todays clip is Live in Englewood, CO - Feb. 18th, 2011

A little story:

At the Georgia Scion Rock Fest on Saturday February 28, 2009, Nachtmystium was forced to cancel at the request of the festival's promoters, and sponsors, Toyota, on Tuesday February 23, 2008 due to an unnamed source, who believed the group was a "Nazi" band. Judd promptly released a statement after the incident, stating, "We will be taking legal action against the people who slandered us in this situation, and in the future will file defamation / slander charges against any person or organization who attempts to prevent us from performing anywhere, especially in the United States. So - let it be known loud and clear for the LAST TIME, we ARE NOT a Nazi band, ARE NOT political, are certainly NOT racists and DO NOT support that world or any band, person or business affiliated with it." He also apologized to Nachtmystium fans who traveled to the concert to support the band.

Mastodon - All the Heavy Lifting

Today when I got home, was there as usual a pile of mail at the door, but it was not just a bunch of bills, advertisements and other junk, which stuck up a "jiffy" bag it brown and nice and shouted, open me now! It was not quite what I expected, impatient as I am, opened it immediately and to my great surprise, it was a painting there and not just any painting, it was "Mastodon's The Hunter" painted in 8-bit interpretation of the cover; created by none other than Slusk ... wow what a cool thing, was actually quite speechless for a moment and thought was this a late birthday gift???

No, not directly, it turned out that some Slusk had a contest, Slusk lacked inspiration and needed a nudge on the road and shouted for help. My suggestion was that he could do his interpretation of the Mastodon album "The Hunter" which he did and I got in the mail. Shit what arbitrarily, this will get a place of honor at home.

So what about today's tune then... It's obvious that Mastodon is the main theme of today and the suitable tune for this is this beautiful song with the following lyrics "Can you show me, Where to find a stream" thinking of course of the artistic direction.

Todays tune "All the Heavy Lifting" is taken from the latest album "The Hunter" and is dedicated to Slusk, thank you!

Switch Opens - Express Death

Switch Opens from Stockholm, Sweden started out in 2000 as Fingerspitzengefühl. They made two albums for Kooljunk Communications, “Fingerspitzengefühl” in 2004 and “Happy Doomsday” in 2006, and decided to continue as Switch Opens in 2008. The band has done extensive gigging on their own, but also supported bands such as Neurosis, Scars On Broadway and Entombed. The band has earned a reputation as an adrenalized live act, crushing everything in their way. Switch Opens signed to GMR Music Group in October 2008 and the self-titled record was released in Scandinavia in September 2009 and in the rest of Europe in the end of October. In January 2010, the album won P3 Guld, the Swedish national radio music awards, in the Rock/Metal category. In May 2011, the band changed label once again. A new album is scheduled for release early 2012 on Transubstans Records.
