Willie Mitchell - The Champion (Part 1)

Willie "Papa Willie" Mitchell (March 23, 1928 – January 5, 2010) was an American soul, R&B, rock and roll, pop and funk music producer and arranger who ran Royal Recording in Memphis, Tennessee. He was best known for his Hi Records label of the 1970s, which released albums by a large stable of popular Memphis soul artists, including Mitchell himself, Al Green, Syl Johnson and Ann Peebles. Willie is often credited as being the creator of the so often to be-copied and instantly recognizable Hi sound (churning organ fills, sturdy horn arrangements, a steady 4/4 drumbeat, etc.). Mitchell died in Memphis January 5, 2010, two months before his 82nd birthday.

RIP Willie

Vic Chesnutt - Feast In The Time Of Plague

James Victor "Vic" Chesnutt (November 12, 1964 – December 25, 2009) was an American singer-songwriter living in Athens, Georgia. Chesnutt released seventeen albums during his career. His musical style is described as a "skewed, refracted version of Americana that is haunting, funny, poignant, and occasionally mystical, usually all at once".

Injuries from a 1983 car accident left him partially paralyzed; he used a wheelchair and had limited use of his hands. He could not walk "functionally" and that, although he realized shortly afterward that he could still play guitar, he could only play simple chords. Chesnutt stated his atheism since age 13.

On December 25, 2009, Chesnutt died from an overdose of muscle relaxants that had left him in a coma in an Athens hospital.

R.I.P. Vic!

Todays tune "Feast In The Time Of Plague" is taken from his latest album "Skitter on Take-Off" See the video or listen to it on Spotify.Enjoy!

But I became honest Mr. Mistaken. In spite of the curves my smile was makin'... Bumpers and kickers in one big stream.
I grew up in a life size pinball machine! Yeah! - They're mean!.
'Coz it's so hard to meet the eyes that I see. When I try to open up my heart... There's something inside me'n'I know it's good..
But understanding, it's misunderstood. At the end of a smile, there's a laugh'n'a 1/2
