Update From SLAYER's Drummer Dave Lombardo About Bands NEW Album!
Slayer's badass drummer Dave Lombardo has made the following Facebook post regarding the NEW album from the Thrash Metal legends:
"We have seven kick-ass songs" written for the group's next studio album. He adds, "You're going to soil your pants!"
Recently, Jenn Selby of The Quietus conducted an interview with Tom Araya, frontman of SLAYER, while Artisan News spoke with SLAYER guitarist Kerry King! When asked about the status of the NEW SLAYER album, this is what they had to say.
"We've had a few drawbacks, but we are attempting to work on the NEW material," said Araya. "Kerry [King, guitar] and Dave [Lombardo, drums] have been doing that. And me, because I'm sick, I don't want to fly out and make everybody sick, so my joining in the process is going to be on pause until I get better. But there's something there.
"We got back out [on the road] May 25 in Europe, then we'll be back in the States, of course," said Kerry King. "Hopefully we'll get in the studio to record [the new CD] before then, 'cause it's time-consuming. We're looking to get in March and April, so hopefully be done [recording] by the time [we have to go back out on tour]."
"All four of us have agreed that the guy that we want to record our NEW record will be the same gentleman who recorded our last album (Greg Fidelman co-produced 2009's 'World Painted Blood' with Rick Rubin)," Araya said. "We just had a really great experience with him last time, loved the sound, and, if we can make our timings match up, we would love to record with him again. We'll probably bring him in towards the end of the writing process, which is what we did last time."
Araya also spoke about Hanneman's current state of health.
"Jeff is recording and writing with us on the album," Araya said. "He can still play, and he is rehearsing with us. It's just that he needs to get his chops up before he joins us live again... We have to take it one day at a time. He has the ability to play, but he needs to really work at it. So we have to make sure he's at his best before he comes out and tours with us. But yeah, we want him out and on the road with us."

Metallica 3D Movie - Official Statement Available!
"As you know, we generally make it a policy not to comment on gossip or rumors, but we also pride ourselves on being first with 'Tallica news. So, with that said, the more astute of you may have noticed a couple of mentions in trade publications, and most recently in the new issue of Rolling Stone, that a Metallica 3D movie is in the works. We're here to tell you that, yes, there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production! We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don't have all the finer points nailed down just yet. What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theater near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them."
According to Deadline.com, Metallica will be self-financing a 3D feature film, and the band has recruited producer Charlotte Huggins ("Journey To The Center Of The Earth" and "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island") to work on the project, for which a director was being sought.
Stay tuned for more information!

Megadeth's Dave Mustaine Unleashes The Perfect Holiday Gift!
Ranked #1 by Joel McIver in his 'The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists' book, Dave Mustaine has godfathered several generations of axe-wielders, first as the original lead guitarist for Metallica, and then as the founder of Megadeth. Now, Mustaine has teamed with the creators of 'Rock Prodigy' to give his legions of fans an entirely NEW way to experience and learn his music. Available just in time for the holidays on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, 'Dave Mustaine: Guitar Prodigy' is an interactive application that teaches fans how to play Megadeth songs on ANY guitar. This is what Mustaine had to say about his latest venture, during an interview with Noisecreep.
Why was this important for you to do now, at this stage of your career?
The first thing was, when I was approached by Rock Prodigy, I knew right away that they were the right people for this. How they approached my music, especially how they took such care to get all the transcriptions right - they totally got it. So that was important. But then there's this thing where, as I get older, it's important to me to put stuff like this out there because physically, I don't know how much longer I can do what I do. Physically, things get tougher. I've had surgeries lately; you just know what's gonna happen so this is a way to preserve what I do for the next generation of players.
It allows the teaching to go on forever.
Exactly. That's really important to me. I first started thinking along these lines watching as my sensei became older. He couldn't move in the same way as he had before, and he told me, when your body can't do what it once did, it's okay, you just have to start relying on your mind more.
You like reaching out to young students obviously.
I do now. The Big Four shows really opened things up for in that I saw and heard from so many young players, and they told me how much I'd influenced their playing. That blew me away. You want to think maybe that happened, but when you hear it first hand from so many it sort of inspires you. It did me, anyway.
As a kid, whose app would you have wanted to learn from?
Angus Young for sure , Jimmy Page and probably Michael Schenker. But mostly Jimmy Page. I mean, I always sort of modeled myself as part Jimmy Page, part Robert Plant. I'm not saying I ever close to those guys' levels, but I tried [laughter]. But right now, 'Dave Mustaine: Guitar Prodigy' is really my way of letting fans spend some personal time with me. And I hope a lot of young players - any players for that matter - get to check it out.
NOTE: The app comes with multiple skill levels from beginner to advanced, and even features a leader board to show off top scores. It's an affordable way for a fan to get a one-on-one connection with the artist and to experience the music – by playing the music.
