Märvel - A Pyrrhic Victory

Swedish Märvel (pronounced like the English Marvel) from Linkoping, was the second band during the release party that Killer Cobra Records held at Debaser on Tuesday, where Tramp was the other band of Tune Of The Day yesterdays post. For Märvel this was the release of their third album, "Warhawk Of War". Like some other bands, like Kizz, Dark Funeral, Watain, Ghost, and others, appears Märvel masked and using fictitious artist's name. The band consists of, The King, The Vicar, Speedo, The Aviator and The Burgh.

At Debaser Märvel rocked on really well, a bit cheek tongue rock when you see them with masks on. The DJ booth offered Nick Anderson and Robert Dahlqvist of musical wonders. Papa Bear was standing in merchstand and flog the new records and t-shirts.

Märvel plays a straight, honest rock with clear influences from both the Hellacopters and Turbonegro. Hellacopters-sound may be a little fertilizer on the songs "A Hobby That Got Out Of Hand" where Dregen is the guest player and TNH spiced up with Robert "string" Dahlquist.

The band was formed in 2002 when John Steen (The King), Ulrik Bostedt ( Speedo) and Tony Samuelsson (The Vicar) spent a high school exchange year in Colorado, USA. The first vinyl ep "Marvellous" was released through the small NY based label "New York Powerhitters" and the band got airtime on several college radio stations before they left USA and returned to Sweden with lousy grades, but high spirits. Two other vinyl eps (Heroine Tracks, Bedlam at the embassy)were released the following years through Swedish indie labels.

Since the bassist Ulrik Bostedt (Speedo) isn’t allowed to cross the Swedish borders another character, The Aviator, has taken his place on tour abroad and recently Märvel has reached 3rd bass with their latest member, the Burgher. Märvel don´t believe in replacing members, they add members. So for those who are counting, Märvel is a power trio with five members.

In 2009 Märvel released a single sided one track vinyl 7" titled "A Pyrrhic Victory". The singel was followed by a tour that was filmed and later released as a 20 minute road movie.

In 2011, the swedish barons of high energy rock and roll are back with their third album - Warhawks of War! Twelve brand new tracks from the King, the Vicar and Speedo. Warhawks of War is filled with gigantic guitars, bombastic bass, dynamite drums and vaporizing vocals and features guests stars Strings (Dundertåget, Hellacopters) and Dregen (Backyard Babies).

MÄRVEL - Nur für starke Nerven!

The Single is also released on Vinyl!

Here is some pictures from the gig.

A horse and an elephant. That felt like the obvious choice for the video for Märvel's latest single "A Pyrrhic Victory"

No horses or elephants were harmed during the shoot.

Tramp - It's Automatic

Tramp is a Swedish rock band from Stockholm. The band consists of the singer Markus Karlsson, guitarist Stefan Brändström, drums Robert Eriksson and Johannes Borgström on bass.

The overall merit accommodate participation in bands such as Hellacopters, Henry Fiat's Open Sore, Turpentines, Captain Murphy and Sewergrooves. And now, after three years of secrecy and with a slightly dazed countenance they make an entrance with their cocky debut album Indigo under their arm. Indigo is released in Scandinavia April 1:st and in the rest of Europe and the USA in May 2:nd. Musically Tramp weave together decades of musical heritage. The melodies and harmonies echoing of the 60's, the attack in the performance has more of a 70's touch, and some big gestures could be from the 80's. Furthermore, they dig into their own story and weave everything together into something that lives and breathes in its own time. It sounds British in head-on collision with the U.S. - a healthy cocktail of late '60s psychedelia and garage rock. Like New York punk rockers on a Magical Mystery Tour. Or The Damned spitting out Beach Boys songs. And sometimes as The Who in their best pop costume.

A few days ago they had their release party at Debaser Slussen together with Märvel and the label Killer Cobra Records. They did a marvelous performance, like if you translate Tramp to slut, then it will describe them pretty good. On a positive manner. For the live show it was like a gang of real pop sluts, with melodies and choruses that kicked some ass in there, a really fun night.

Here is some pictures from the gig.

Todays tune ”It's Automatic” is the first single from Tramp's debut album Indigo, enjoy!.

The new record is also released on vinyl, The regular version is sold as a 4x7" vinyl set in handstamped paperbags. There is also a limited mailorder edition in a screen printed and hand numbered box that will also include a centerhole adapter. Kinda cool.
