Jussi Björling - Mattinata

Today we celebrate the greatest tenor of them all, namely, Jussi Bjorling, he would today have turned 100 years if he lived.

Johan Jonatan "Jussi" Björling (5 February 1911 – 9 September 1960) was a Swedish tenor. One of the leading operatic singers of the 20th Century, Björling appeared frequently at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City as well as at many major European opera houses.

Bust of Jussi Bjorling, designed by Pieter de Monchy 1961

Todays tune ”Mattinata” is a superior version. Only Jussi can sing this flowless in one line, up and down. All others sings Mattinata with subs and reloadings. This is howe Mattinata shall be sunged. Enjoy, including the lyrics so you can sing along :)

L'aurora di bianco vestita
Già l'uscio dischiude al gran sol;
Di già con le rosee sue dita
Carezza de' fiori lo stuol!
Commosso da un fremito arcano
Intorno il creato già par;
E tu non ti desti, ed invano
Mi sto qui dolente a cantar.

Metti anche tu la veste bianca
E schiudi l'uscio al tuo cantor!
Ove non sei la luce manca;
Ove tu sei nasce l'amor.

Ove non sei la luce manca;
Ove tu sei nasce l'amor.

Sting - Shape Of My Heart

Two days ago did Sting visited Stockholm, Sweden for a show at the Globe, in his luggage did he have last summer released "Symphonicities".

The new album showed that the old Sting and Police songs are very well kept to enlarged up to symphonic proportions. Some of them, as "Roxanne" and "Every Little Breath You Take", grew even in their new costumes and bared new unheard dimensions.

It works well when Sting stands on the Globe stage in front of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the new arrangements and also new sound effectively blowing away the dust from the greatly bored Sting songs and make the long concert (3 hrs), constantly entertaining. Sting is a very good shape and really have fun during the show.

Todays tune "Shape Of My Heart" is taken from "Ten Summoner's Tales" which is the fourth solo studio album. The title is a combined pun of his given name, Gordon Sumner, and a character in Geoffrey Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, the summoner. Released in 1993, it explores themes of love and morality in a noticeably upbeat mood compared to his previous release, the introspective The Soul Cages.

Apocalyptica - End Of Me

Apocalyptica is a Finnish cello metal band from Helsinki, Finland, formed in 1993. The band is composed of classically trained cellists and, since 2003, a drummer. Three of the cellists are graduates of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. Their music features elements from classical music and neo-classical metal, to symphonic metal and thrash metal. They have sold over three million albums to date.

7th Symphony is the seventh studio album from Apocalyptica. The band has stayed with the tradition of having 4 tracks with featured vocalists, the remaining tracks will all be instrumental. Dave Lombardo of Slayer will once again be featuring on drums, on the track entitled "2010". The first single "End of Me" with Gavin Rossdale of Bush on vocals. The track "Bring Them to Light" was originally written for Worlds Collide, but both Duplantier and Apocalyptica were unhappy with the original, and so they decided to re-work the track, and re-record it for their next studio album.

The album is available for presale on their official website in two versions. The original album contains 10 songs as opposed to the limited edition which includes 12 songs (additional tracks being "Through Paris in A Sportscar" and "The Shadow of Venus"). The limited edition also includes a bonus DVD with filmed acoustic recordings from a session at the Sibelius Academy in Finland, recorded on June 4, 2010. The iTunes bonus track "Spiral Architect" is a cover of Black Sabbath and will also be featured in the free CD available with the September 2010 issue of Metal Hammer.

Todays tune "End of Me", the song is released as the first single from 7th Symphony. The song features Gavin Rossdale of Bush on lead vocals. The music video for "End of Me" was shot in a crematorium in Altadena, California at the end of May 2010. The band worked again with Canadian Lisa Mann who directed the video for "I Don't Care" from the album Worlds Collide.

Rodrigo y Gabriela - Hanuman

Rodrigo y Gabriela (Rodrigo and Gabriela) are a Mexican musical duo who specialize in playing fast, rhythmic acoustic guitars. The duo's members are Rodrigo Sánchez, lead guitar, and Gabriela Quintero, rhythm guitar.

Before they became the most visible flamenco duo of the early 2000s, guitarists Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero bonded over heavy metal while growing up in Mexico City. They combined their talents for a time in the metal group Tierra Acida. Though they recorded some material, Tierra Acida never hit it big, and an album was never released. Instead, Sanchez and Quintero concentrated on learning more guitar styles, teaching lessons during the day and playing bossa novas in hotel bars at night. Bored and frustrated with their chances in the Americas, the two decided to try their luck in Europe instead. They soon bumped into Damien Rice who offred them a spot on his upcoming tour and that open up the doors for them.

Todays tune "Hanuman" is taken from the third studio album "11:11", it was released on 8 September, 2009. Each song on the album is a tribute to an artist that has inspired both Rodrigo and Gabriela and todays tune is dedicated to Carlos Santana

Today its Midsummers eve in Sweden and Tune Of The Day wants to wish you all a Great Midsummer with a nice piece of music and this is nothing that we normal have on this site, but somehow it felt right. Its a classical tune written by Shakespeare.

A Midsummer Night's Dream is a comedy by William Shakespeare. It is believed to have been written around 1594 to 1596. It portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta. These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors, who are manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The play is one of Shakespeare's most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.
